Student killed by gunman on first day back from summer vacation

UPDATE: The 18-year-old was attacked at a technical school in Orotina. The shooter shot himself, and died Tuesday at Hospital Mexico.
A teenager shot and killed an 18-year-old student at a school before shooting himself on Monday, according to police.
Juan Pablo Salazar was shot at 9:10 a.m. at the Colegio Ricardo Castro in Orotina, a technical high school school about 60 kilometers west of San José, according to the daily La Nación. The alleged 17-year-old assailant later shot himself in the right temple. The shooter was taken to a nearby hospital by Red Cross relief workers. He was only identified by the last name Villegas because he is a minor. He was not a student of the school, authorities said.
Authorities at Hospital Mexico confirmed Villegas' death Tuesday morning due to a brain hemorrhage.
The student was shot in the school's computer room on the first day of classes after a two week summer break. Some students said the shooter entered the room and made everyone leave except the victim.
Education Minister Leonardo Garnier said via Twitter that the event was a tragedy but there is not enough information out yet to comment further on the event.
The attack comes one year after a 17-year-old student killed a principal at a private school in Heredia, north of San José.

1- My opinion about pitiful events is: that the persons do not have care of thier actions and this has consequences that we must take, many people are not prepared to take his actions and can cause emotional damage,psychological and can cause to death.

Should make revisions of backpacks, at least once week. But the principal responsibles are the parents,they must guide his sons to success and not to misfortunes.

ResponderEliminarMy point of view is that it is unfortunate that a student is killed in a school. There should be more security measures and an appropriate protocol to know what to do when strangers come to a school. We Costaricans are very confident because they let anyone come and go without any questions like where you are going?, Who are you looking for? What is your purpose for coming here? They should implement stronger security measures to protect students from different schools and colleges as a system of badges, show the ID, sign a document on the entry and exit and write the reason of your visit. Parents always hope their children will return home safely, and if at any time a fatality occurs the teachers and the principal must take responsibilities. Therefore, they should take good care of children and teenagers to avoid acts of irresponsibility and to avoid legal consequences.
Other ideas, to feel better in a high school in terms of implementing security measures, can be with a metal detector or other mechanisms that can control people entering and leaving the institutions.
In my high school, I feel secure because it has a security system in which people have to check in and out of the institution. It is good because it has many security systems like cameras surveillance and badge system that are given the visitor so that they can enter the high school.
First it was an event that left an impact all over the country, first because it was in a high school and second for the reasons why he did it which are not very common.I think that schools need much supervision as they do the searches are not very good or in some cases not even do them, some safety measures that schools should implement are the metal detectors and more efficient security guards, and personally I have never felt unsafe in my high school and I hope that something like this never happens in the SAMAGU but as this society is, we must be prepared to handle such situations.Thanks
ResponderEliminarThis situation with the students very unfortunate and alarming should be a reason for the government is more concerned with schools and students. Because these places most of the time the students stay here, as these places can be considered a second home for them.
ResponderEliminarIn my school does not have situations like that happened in this school, I believe that safety in schools should be stronger as each day in our country security is not good.
Many students in the country does not want to go back to school and that these situations have occurred given that fear of attending lessons.
This situation is not the only has happened in our country, we know that the return of vacations half a year a large number of students died for different reasons: either a heart attack, by aggression, for a fight school, or a drug problem.
We know people who work in school are very difficult to avoid some situations. In my school the security are good and both students and teachers are respected, the police in the entry of the school also plays an important role, is to prevent people who are not part of the school come to school.
Life is full of surprises and unexpected things but it is always possible to avoid these situations.
I find it very lamentable as a youth who has a whole life ahead making a mistake maybe for a moment of anger, not having love for life or what situations should be seen live at home, the young people do not measure the consequences can bring a situation like this.
ResponderEliminarI think that the MEP can not control these problems in all schools everyone should be take to monitor the people coming in and out of institutions because although the MEP did not order the institutions comply the ministry can not do anything for the safety of students and teachers.
I think for better security of every student entering high school must show your ID card to avoid conflict with any people who are not students of that school high.
I do not feel insecure in my in the high school because there are good people plus security cameras and control are good people who enter in the high school and processes should be made for a student to leave the institution.
Well I think that these events are very sad. I don’t understand how one student can kill to other and then shoot himself. I imagine that this boy had problems since he was a child and he never learned to solve his problems and this actions maybe led him to commit murder. Maybe he resolves his problems by this way but never imagine that the actions can make in the lives of everyone and this decision caused his own death.
ResponderEliminarI imagine that the MEP will make new standards from now on to resolve the problems of the insecurity in the schools and in the high schools. The preventing that should have the MEP for avoiding these tragedies are:
• Campaigns in the schools about the good behavior and how to resolve the problems.
• Make that the teachers talk about these topics and explain the impact of the bad actions.
• And make checks every month for avoiding the bad actions, for example the violence.
Well I’m satisfied with the security of my high school and I never feel insecure in this place because the high school has a good security system. But I notice that other high schools have many problems with this topic because the system of security isn’t efficient. I think that this problem can be resolve but with a good plan and many years of education.

ResponderEliminarThis event is impressive because it happened to a young man who was starting to live, now’s me afraid of going to school because of this problem. I agree with the M.E.P. with this security system that we can avoid these problems so horrible that they become very often, in my school do not leave us out in the playground to the part of the front because of this and gave us a student card to the College. This has me very calm I feel secure in my school and I invite you to report problems such as these in their schools to prevent tragedies such as these.
